okay, went to look at a 91 today at Adam's Auto, looks GREAT and sounds great. It is a NA and he wants 2700-3000 for it. Never been in a accident, and it has the Ttops :) it has about 180,000 miles on it, which in all honesty doesn't matter because i would do a engine swap by the end of the summer.
VERY nice looking, allthough he's trying to find a rear bumper cover for it, since for some reason it was taken off, and never put back on (in case someone bought it and wanted to put a body kit on it)
ttops don't leak he said (as far as he knows... )
has most of the records for mechanical work
he started it up for me and it sounds beautiful
what do you guys think?
personally i think that the car is nice, and i want it :D

If it needs any immediate work, I would stear clear. Of caorse Id have to see it in real life to be a good judge.

Usually, my advice sounds like this. If you want a turbo mr2, buy one, dont build it. However, seeing as you are still learning about the characteristics of the motor/handling, it might be a good thing to hop into an MKII NA first. It is totally different then your mkI, and will be totally different then an MKII T. They all have their own features, and of course every car is different. If you want the car and it checks out then get it. Ive never seen an mr2 with t's that dont leak (unless someone replaced all seals). it just happens, usually they only leak in heavy rain though. Id be suspicious if he claims its never been in an accident but the rear bumper is off. people usually just dont take bumpers off for fun. I have a spare one laying around, a few other locals were interested in it, but if they dont want it, itd be yours. If you are serious about this car Id run a carfax on it, drive it, see if there are any weird noises/vibrations/etc. check all panels for signs of damage, etc. If you need help looking at it in person, I might be able to check it out. or you could always post pics for us to look at..:)

hmm, alright well thanks for your opinions so far :D
well, he opened it all up for me, and nothing seems to have been damaged at all....his son Darius (also one of my friends) had a Mr2 and he said that he thought that it was a really good car.
maybe i'd even want to keep it a NA, who knows :)
but if any of you here in the springs wanna go check it out, it's at Adam's Autos across from the OTC on Union and right next to Papa Johns :)
but still, any advice is wonderful :)

ok..... I just got home. I'll try to be as honest and nice as possible.
I finally found which dealership it was, as there was no sign, just some crooked letters on the small building. I parked and walked up to the door which had an open sign, which to my surprise was locked. ok.... I'll just go look at the car then.
walking to the car I imediately notice the front lip and bumper had some nice meetings with curbs/cement blocks. someone didnt know how to drive. looking at the hood/fenders/lights everything lined up fairly well, I do not suspect there to have been any real front end damage. the right headlight cover was not flush. someone could have sat on it, or tried to adjust it and not know what they were doing. most likely fixable with some small adjustment. the paint was faded as usual, clear coat? it was peeling as any of them that have CC are. I went around to the back. No accidents? bullshit no accidents. the back bumper was not just "taken off" and the reason he doesent put it back on is because they dont have it. it was smashed in, just like the back of the car. I couldnt figure out if the car was in reverse and ran into something, or another smaller lower car rearended it. but the lower half of the rear (lights down) was smashed in, and had an attempted fix (which looks like shit BTW) you could but a bumper over it and if it happend to line up then you wouldnt be able to tell unless the bumper cover was off. the lights/rear grille/trunklid/quarters all looked straight though. the exhaust was modified. some sort of cherry bomb looking muffler with 2 3A racing perforated tips. looking in through the slot in the engine lid, I saw a ghetto rigged integra intake. the inside of the car wasnt much better. at some point in its life it had the seats recovered which was not done too great. its missing interior pieces (radio, ashtray, misc covers, etc) Id also put money on it that the ttops do leak, but like I said it happens to all of them.
Remember my write up was all visual, I couldnt even get in the car, nor listen to it. It might have more problems then I pointed out.
Over all the condition of the car is poor, but not terrible. It needs work, both money and labor. I wouldnt think about giving him 3k for it. 2500 tops, and even that is pushing it. If you buy it expect to drop in close to 1k to make it cleaner with the interior and exterior. That doesent account for any possible engine work, suspension, etc.
My personal opinon, I wouldnt get it. If you dont mind having a project, then go for it. but for the price, I wouldnt. If my pessemistic report hasnt swayed your opinon, and you are still looking at getting it, just make sure atleast the title is clean. One of the big reasons I dont think its a good choice for you is because I dont want to see you buy it, then get fed up with all the work you are going to have to do just to get it nice and clean.it takes a lot of time and money, and patience, trust me.
Sorry for the novel guys!

I agree with this.
I wouldnt get it.
I agree with this too.
2500 might even be too high. If this car has a bent unibody, it would really take a skilled puller to get it right again. You can't fix some types of damage at all, they can only get close and fudge the rest.
Wait until you have a little more cash and do it right the first time. Then, you can spend your time figuring out which rims you want, instead of which part to fix next.
In other words, this: :shift: instead of this: :(

Yup, I stopped to look at this car even before I saw this thread. I totally agree with 7hermalwrath, and also, if you look at the exhaust, one side is shoved way in and one is sticking out, so it defanatly has been hit in some way or another. The only other thing I noticed was that the front end had been repainted, or at least the passenger side front fender, while the rest of the car was faded and crap, so the front has probably been hit also. peace

180k?>!?! good god!! My MK1 has that much!
and also... 180k does matter, even if you're replacing the motor, suspension pieces and everything else wears also, remember that.

If I am able to get what I want out of it yeah I am probably selling it. We only have 2 door vehicles and with 2 children it's just not working. We need something with 4 doors. I am thinking WRX wagon.
