I am frustraited with my 93 Turbo. Its not running right, and im the type of mechanic that can install new performance mods but when things go wrong, im not sure how to fix them.

I have this new turbo I want to have installed but there are so many other things wrong, I dont want to even mess with it.

If I do replace the turbo, I would have to tap and dye new bolt threads on the exhaust manifold and cat. (they broke off last attempt.) So unless I can find a good reputable shop to do this for me, I think its time for the girl to go. Living in an apartment, I just dont have the space to take on this type of job. Nor do I have the patience anymore.

Sorry about the rant, Just venting.

Sorry to hear about this. Yes, I have gotten quite frustrated on one occasion. However, I overcame that issue and am now REALLY loving tinkering with the "ol' girl".

Do with that info what you may.

You will have issues with any car, and this one is pretty damn cool. That's what it came down to for me.

If it makes you feel any better, I payed for a 2.5K from a local guy for a 91MR2 with a blown motor(I know about) front end damage (also know about) and now that I have the car running I now discovered that the car has vibration at higher speeds possible because he has on completely wrong wheel studs, the wiring was all messed up, so I had to steal the full main 2 wire harnesses out of my other one. However the wireing going to the door most have some kinda pinch! Because the windows only work some times, my power mirrors don’t work at all. The gauge cluster is all messed up. The dumb ass did some very ½ as wireing for a sound system that was removed ( I dint know about that one) however he never bothered to properly clean up all the loose wires,(there most have been a turbo time/ aftermarket alarm, and possible some other stuff and he did one of the most ½ ass installs ever and then just sniped the aftermarket parts out and left everything a mess( still working and most likely will for some time)

I had a never-ending oil leak that turned out to be the machine shops fault, this is after I replaced the oil pain gasket 3 times, dropped the motor out and replaced the rear main and the plate its installed on. And after all that I had to drop the motor out again so I could install a proper plug that they should have never messed replace in the 1st place! So yes I have had this motor out 3 times now!

And some how I’m still sticking in there. So a few busted studs does not sound all that bad to me :)

BTW if you only snapped out 2 or so, you would be ok, yayaya its not proper but hell you would not be the 1st person, im still puzzled how the original motor dint blow off the heads( all the studs had healy coals and I could use one hand on the wrench remove all of them!) 2 of them I just used my fingers!

Are you describing your MR2 or mine?

No offense, but I think I've been through a lot worse trauma and drama than what you're describing. I'm at the point where selling my car will be a huge loss (but I will still do it at one point or another).

If you really feel this way, and want something else, make a clean break and sell it before you put any more money into it.

Oh dont get me wrong, I know lots of people have worse problems. I think its my apathy toward the whole thing. Since I just moved here, Im living in a lousy apartment. No garage, the damn t-tops leak, and its just frustraiting.

I do love to drive it, however the AC doesnt work (compressor clutch?) and again, the t-tops leak. So I just put the insurance on it so it can sit. I cant even drive it without upping my insurance on it.

I just want to pay someone to fix the problems. I dont feel like doing it myself anymore. Ive replaced 4 turbos for friends on their cars, with none of these issues! Why does mine have to be the problem!!! GRRRRRRR

I totally understand. I'm sick of dealing my MR2 as well, and just want to be able to enjoy it. I've experienced paying for insurance on a car I don't drive as well.

You got me beat on two issues. My t-tops have never leaked (as far as I know) and the A/C on my MR2 works better than any other car I own.

Here are my laundry-list of MR2 issues -

1. $7,000 worth of body damage on a car worth $10,000 tops (that I've spent over $20,000 on)
2. My P/S sucks; weird pump cavitation problem that seems common on MR2s, but some people's cars don't have that problem at all.
3. My battery constantly dies from some sort of low level drain. And no, it's not the alarm or the stereo system.
4. Weird popping/clicking sounds from the rear end. Not sure if it's the motor mount at the tranny, the rear swaybar endlinks, or something else, like the Tokico Illumina strut inserts being loose inside the OEM housings (although I've investigated all three possibilitities).
5. Bad driveability/random lack of power despite dyno tuning and A/F tuning.
6. Car doesn't inspire confidence in cornering (I can go faster in my modified Civic - really), despite TEIN camber plates/pillow mounts up front, TRD sway bars, Eibach Sportline springs, aforementioned Illumina shocks, alignment, 17" wheels with much wider rubber than OEM, etc.
7. Lots of oil accumulation in my intake tract, despite a catch can, rebuilt turbo, and rebuilt engine.
8. Oil leaks - valve cover (despite changing the seal 3X), tranny axle shaft, off the bottom of the turbo somewhere.
9. Sometimes, I randomly burn oil and I can see it in the exhaust. Most of the time not. No idea why.
10. Car pushes tons of oil into the catch can with any sort of lateral acceleration (autocross or track driving). No issues with excessive oil out the valve cover breather at the drag strip or with street driving. ???
