Mark your calenders for the 3rd Annual Aspen Lunch Run. This years event will be held on August 13th. Meeting of groups will be at the junction of 285 and 24 for an 11 o'clock departure for the run into Aspen.
Is this a highway drive, or will it go through some interesting mt. roads?
If the route is rewarding, I'd like to come, if I still have my MR2 in August/am allowed to bring/drive a M3.

Scenery is nice of course, but by "interesting," I meant "exciting/rewarding for sport driving" - i.e., spirited cornering.

Break out a map and decide for yourself. Here is what they say about 82 over Independance Pass.
"Independence Pass is a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway that is maintained by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Part of State Highway 82, it is the highest paved state highway over the Continental Divide in Colorado. Though it is a paved road, it can be narrow and winding and therefore difficult to traverse in poor weather. It also has steep dropoffs in places along the route. Several areas of the roadway can only accommodate a single car width, so drivers must use caution and pay close attention when confronted with oncoming traffic."

I took the liberty of notifying all the counties that we will be driving through on the way to aspen that our MR2 group would be traveling through and told them what roads we would take and when we would be driving through.
All the cops I talked were really nice, and said "well keep an eye out for you" so now we have the backing of all the county police on our way incase we run into any mechanical trouble!
Your Welcome in advance!

Just got home... and to make Denverwhitetrac and MichaelMR2 feel better, my check engine light went on after the eisenhower, so you wern't the only ones with problems.... well maybe the only ones with noticible problems... but Ill diagnose mine tomorrow.
Great time, glad I went, and very glad that the weather held up for most of the drive, 3" puddles and rediculously heavy downpour on i-70 were no fun on the way back, but we're all home safe so thats all that matters :thumbu:
Hope to see everyone that came today at the meet in a few weeks.
Untill then....

Ok so that trip was great, nice road good people. BUT it makes me want to sell my mr2. I just cant hang with you guys anymore. I drive to slow in the turns and too fast in the straights for some.
maybe its just time to buy a pinzgauer and get it over with.

I-70 sucked. how was the traffic on the way back on 285? Me and the red MR2 took the frontage road, but we really didn't make up much time. We did stop for gas and everything. But the MR-s still caught up to us. Oh well, at least we got to go offroading a little. :p
Altogether, a fun day.
Michaelmr2<-red mr2 in above statement. Driving like an old lady with broken ball joints and shitty front tires.:twak:
Off roading was certainly an adventure.. I never knew that road was there.

sorry about the detour michael. If its any consolation, driving on the frontage road was a bit of an adventure and it was better than bumper to bumper traffic.... :)
